Meisterhäuser Dessau

The directorshouse and the three semi-detached houses, built in 1925 as interpenetrating cubes, were the epitome of the contemporary „designing of life processes” (Gropius) at their time. Their inhabitants created important works of painting and graphic art in the spacious studios of these buildings within a time-span of just a few years. During the war, the directors house, home of Walter and Ise Gropius, and the house of Moholy-Nagy were destroyed. The five surviving houses are a vivid testimony to the life and art of their inhabitants.

Since May 2014, the reconstructed mastershouses Gropius and Moholy-Nagy once again complete the picture.
